Why recovery hasn't worked for you YET
Aug 26, 2023If you are one of the many that recovery hasn't YET happened for...this blog is for you.
There are many reasons for this, but it's NOT because it's impossible or that you're destined be like this forever. That's never the reason as to why you haven’t recovered yet.
But there are many reasons why it could be...
Unfortunately as soon as recovery takes longer than anticipated or you try something that doesn’t work, we build evidence for this belief of “I'm just never gonna get better, there must be something wrong with me."
Not true.
We just need to re-evaluate the plan of action and also learn from the previous things you’ve done…why hasnt it worked? What was missing?
Here are 5 bullet point reasons as to why you may not have recovered yet:
- You try things in the hope that they are going to fix you, not accepting or taking responsibility for the fact that you have to implement the things you learn. For example: you sign up to a program, and you go through it, learn a lot, trail through all the content, show up for meetings BUT you don’t action any of the things you learn, you don’t ingrain them into your life you don’t put them into practice…then you of course won’t see results. You can learn a lot about any topic but if you just harbour that knowledge and don’t put it into practice …it’s kinda useless.
- You’ve signed up for a program/coach/course that is not right for you. This is not entirely your fault…some businesses market themselves really well but don’t come through on the product itself and don’t provide the right support. This sucks when you are the customer, and I completely understand why so many people have trust issues with starting new programs…its hard to be sure these days whether what your looking at buying is actually gonna help. So here are my tips for what to look out for when your considering something, because the flip side of this is that there are some amazing, values driven, passionate coaches out there and programs that do change lives and do exactly what they say on the tin…
- What are they promising you? (is it too good to be true?)
- What qualification do they have?
- Do they offer a guarantee?
- What do your instincts say? Do you feel like you know, like and trust the coach? Could you be open and vulnerable with them? Do you feel like just another number to them or do you feel seen?
- You havn't addressed the behaviours and personality traits that contributed to cfs in the first place. Everyone tries to avoid this step because it’s not all that comfortable and easy, it requires digging and being curious and confronting long held beliefs. Developing new self regulation tools, identifying triggers, & a lot of self awareness work.
- You keep hopping around different methods or things and don’t really stick to anything long enough to see if it has an effect. And this could be due to impatience, you don’t see results immediately so you give up or change. It could also be coming from a place of desperation and again seeking externals to fix you.
- Time. Time on its own isn’t enough, but time and a good recovery method. That is making it sound very simplified, but the message is don’t give up when you don’t see the result you want immediately.
Any thing worth having takes time and your health is definitely worth having.
