How can I love my body when I struggle to exercise, do things I enjoy & don't like how I look?

Jul 25, 2024

Unconditionally loving your body can feel impossible when it seems to not be playing ball.

In society we are told in order to feel our best & love ourselves we need to exercise, go on adventures, & have an almond croissant every morning (& post about it online).

But what happens when you cannot do these things? There is no denying that regular movement, exercise & joy are hugely supportive of health.

But here is the thing...you DO NOT have to wait until you can do these things before you can love your body.

Let me elaborate...

Loving your body doesn't require a certain look or output. You also don't have to like your body everyday to still love it.

Along your healing journey, there will be days where you will feel frustrated & resentful that you don't have as much ability as you would like. Or maybe you don't like how your body looks.

You can feel these things & still choose unconditional love for your body.

She / he works hard everyday to try & bring you back to balance. You body want to feel well just as much as you do. The best way to support change is to come from a place of compassion & unconditional love.

The beauty is that when you start shifting into a more loving state for your body you may well notice your energy is less drained & your abilities can improve. It is exhausting to be non - accepting of your own body...

It is also worth asking "what beliefs do I hold about loving my body?" do you believe you can only love your body when it looks a certain way? Do you believe you can only love your body when it feels good? Do you believe beauty standards are what you have to strive for? Do you believe you wont try so hard to 'achieve' if you unconditionally love your body?

No good change comes from a place of self criticism or hatred. Shifting in to more self love is a great starting point for sustainable change🫶🏼
