4 Daily Habits For CFS
Nov 07, 2023Hello!
Today I am going to share 4 daily habits that supported me on my own CFS journey & have worked well for the people I have supported through CFS Transformation.
I think we often assume we need to make big, drastic change to recover from a serious health condition...however in my experience it was really the opposite.
It is the small, daily habits that compound over time that are the most significant.
And it is a rookie error to overlook the importance of "the basics", as they are the foundation of greater change.
Without these four things being imperfectly consistent in your life, it will be hard to achieve big change.
So...
Number one. Good nutrition & hydration. Foods that support your energy & mood. We want to make sure our diet is supportive of our health. Aiming to have the majority of our diet being whole, nutrient dense food, allowing for food we ENJOY, whilst making sure our relationship with food is also healthy so we don't experience disordered eating. Hydration is super important for transportation in the body & helping you recover from disease...so don't forget to do it! Just to be clear, diet is not the sole cause or cure of CFS, but we want to eliminate the possibility that we are exaggerating symptoms by malnourishing our body.
Number two. Good sleep hygiene. Sleep disorders or disruption can be prelevant with CFS, for many reasons. So it's important that even if you're not sleeping well you aim to establish good sleep hygiene to support your natural circadian rhythm. This means having a set bed time, a particular 'winding down' routine, & implement behaviours that encourage sleep (think reading, herbal tea, etc). Sleep is our natural healing state, if there is one thing that can heal your body it is good sleep.
Number three. Setting boundaries. This is imperative to protecting your peace & breaking the cycle of burning yourself out. Boundaries can feel uncomfortable to set, but what is more uncomfortable is living a life filled with resentment & frustration at the people closest to you for exhausting you. Boundaries are essential to living a healthful life, so best to start now.
Number four. Do something that makes you happy every day (so underrated). Being diagnosed with a chronic health condition makes life more stressful (ironically and unhelpfully), this means its even more important to make some time to do things you enjoy or at the very least bring you presence. Even if it's not what you used to be able to do, finding joy in small moments can create a happier, healthier internal environment.
So those are the four daily habits to implement, now it is up to you to be imperfectly consistent with these things. Don't aim to have the perfect diet or sleep pattern...you will fall short, just do the best you can & continue to show up.
Sending healing vibes your way!
